Mechanical Project Engineer

Role :
  • Oversee and manage all technical aspects of preconstruction, design and build phases, into commissioning and handover
  • Collaborating with the project team (engineers and site staff) to create efficient methods of working and maintain project profitability
  • Completion of mechanical design elements of all Company projects
  • Develop the Specifications and Schedules for the equipment that is required for each project
  • The ability to specify job requirements and the parts / equipment / materials needed to enable projects to be scoped out for tender as well as on site delivery
  • Formulate realistic parameters for each project, including design elements and implementation procedures
  • Establish the methods by which all field tests are administered and develop various ways to monitor the quality of those tests
  • Completion of required paperwork
  • Utilise design drawings, wiring diagrams and manufacturer's installation manuals to complete assigned projects
  • Survey mechanical systems and plans 
Responsibilities :
  • Design review, build ability checks and validation
  • Value engineering of mechanical package
  • Producing and responding to RFI's / Tech Subs
  • Procurement tender review
  • Site set up and subcontractor management
  • Overseeing and enforcing scope of works, commissioning and quality plans
  • Sign of and management of ITPs
  • Review and challenge mechanical designs for build-ability and cost effectiveness
  • Be responsible for mechanical materials and subcontract procurement and control of mechanical subcontractors on site, within budget, to the highest quality and safety standards and to the satisfaction of the customer
  • Undertake the commissioning of plant, equipment and processes, and optimise operating in line with agreed performance parameters
  • Be responsible for the completion of the mechanical scope of works and documentation to obtain Perfect Delivery
  • Provide technical support and advice to design teams in assessing existing process plant and equipment and build-ability of proposed solutions
  • Lead technical, commercial and site management support to procurement teams in quotation evaluation and pre-contract award processes for mechanical deliverables
  • Expedite subcontractor designs, off-site works, testing and delivery to ensure compliance of quality, budget and programme milestones defined in the subcontract
  • Ensure all staff and subcontractors promote a safety and environmental conscious culture
  • Assist in reviewing and implementing safe systems of work for mechanical and electrical site activities, including risk assessments and method statements and impact / contingency plans
  • Responsible for the implementation, monitoring and reporting of the mechanical installation programme and activities
  • Participate in and contribute to Hazop and Hazcom processes Manage and produce commissioning and O&M documentation 
Qualifications & Experience :
  • Must have previous experience working in a site-based team environment contributing across a project or area
  • Knowledge of Water environment an advantage
  • Good management skills, with the ability to motivate self and colleagues to perform
  • Good planning and time management skills; able to manage activities simultaneously within compromising on standards and quality
  • Ability to ensure standards and specifications are met
  • Ability to work with colleagues to contribute to project and operational performance
  • Sound knowledge of construction practises and standards
  • CITB Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme
  • BTEC HNC in mechanical engineering (or equivalent)
  • Degree or HNC in Building Services / Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience leading design and build projects up to 5m M&E
