Mechanical Design Engineer
Role :
- To manage external Design consultants and CDP Specialists through construction stage design delivery on high rise, high end residential projects in Central London
- Reporting to the Design Manager, the Engineer will not be undertaking design and engineering first-hand however, their Mechanical/Electrical experience will be of importance when checking and validating designs of our appointed specialists
- Oversee the mechanical design of new products
- Implementation and testing of existing and new products
- Oversee the product from early stages to full manufacture
- Reactive resolution of any mechanical issues
- Liaise with third party suppliers
- Be involved in cross-functional new product development process
- Proactive improvements to product design
- Project managing design packages for new products
Responsibilities :
- Creating technical product and installation technical drawings
- Knowledge working with ISO/DIN/BS standards
- Working closely with 3D/graphic designers to create visually pleasing yet clear product renders and imagery
- Working with our manufacturing partners to make amendments and improvements to prototypes whilst managing quality control
- Taking ownership over the design and development of products, exhibition stands
- Initiating new product concepts and ideas
- Developing product specifications and design briefs and validating them
- Completing early stage design work - actively participating in the ideation & design process
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring deadlines are met
- Working within specific design guidelines, such as cost, dimensional or functional specification
- Work independently on tasks and as part of a multi-disciplinary team on projects, including; residential, mixed-use, commercial, industrial and educational
- Maintain accurate records in project files including: design calculations and modelling results
- Attend meetings with internal multidisciplinary design teams and external project team meetings
- Attend project surveys including; site inspections, stock condition, refurbishment and post-occupancy performance evaluations
- Prepare high quality information as requested, including; technical specifications, designs, drawings, equipment schedules, survey reports
- Maintain an accurate and organised schedule of personal tasks and available resource
- Attend/organise external CPDs
- Attend/participate in internal CPDs
- Develop technical understanding of Low Carbon Technologies, Building Regulations and Local Sustainable Planning Policy
- Undertake additional and independent learning on technical subjects and software training
- Be active in industry organised events such as CIBSE ‘Young Engineers Network’ and IET programmes
- Be active on calfordseaden online media, including working with the marketing team to develop project related content
Qualifications & Experience :
- At least a 2:1 degree in mechanical engineering or product design
- Familiarity with 3Ds Max, Vray is a plus
- Highly competent in Parametric Modelling using Inventor/Solid Works/Catia, sound drafting skills
- Minimum 1-year experience within design engineering and a sound knowledge of product development through prototyping and testing
- You'll ideally have experience working across the entire production process: from conceptualisation to manufacture, working with multiple parts and assemblies
- You'll possess sound knowledge of manufacturing processes such as plastics injection moulding, thermoforming, CNC, sheet metal bending, extrusion
- Commercially aware, detail orientated whilst striving for continuous improvement
- At least one years' experience in Building Services, as a Mechanical Design Engineer
- Able to use Hevacomp, IES or Revit MEP
- Able to do duct sizing, pipe sizing, heat loss / heat gain calculations, produce drawings in AutoCAD or Revit
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or building services engineering
- Experience in a similar consultancy role
- Experience with design software tools (e.g. IES, Hevacomp, CAD)
- Experience of residential and mixed-use projects with low carbon technologies
- Working towards membership with relevant industry body (CIBSE, IMechE, IET)
