Electrical Design Engineer  

Role :
  • Designing electrical cabinets and machine wiring
  • Providing technical support within the business
  • Supporting the Production department to ensure the efficient manufacture of products
  • The application and maintenance of document standards and technical information
  • To manage external Design consultants and CDP Specialists through construction stage design delivery on high rise, high end residential projects in Central London. Reporting to the Design Manager, the Engineer will not be undertaking design and engineering first-hand however, their Mechanical/Electrical experience will be of importance when checking and validating designs of our appointed specialists. 
Responsibilities :
  • Designing and planning 400V and 11kV electricity supplies
  • Discussing optimal design and costing options with developers during the quotation process
  • Liaising with asset owners, developers, and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to obtain a point of connection and design approval
  • Undertaking project risk assessments
  • Undertaking design calculations, selection of cable sizes and routes; and creating electrical services layout drawings and schematics on AutoCAD.
  • Accountable for ensuring that design solutions are robust to meet client requirements
  • Evaluating cost/benefit trade off technical solution
  • Estimating and tendering for the provision of new 400V and 11kV electricity supplies
  • Ensuring that every project complies with all relevant British Standards and HSE requirements
  • Ensuring designs are carried out in accordance with DNO standards (G81)
  • Undertaking HV and LV cable network and switchgear selection and design
  • Designing and creating HV substation construction detail drawings to DNO and customer requirements
  • Designing and creating internal LV distribution drawings
  • Designing and creating legal plans and processing legals for new electricity supplies
  • Undertaking earthing study, designing and creating earthing drawings for new substations
  • Modelling proposed network on Windebut and evaluating the volt drop, earth loop impedance, prospective short circuit current and cable loadings
  • Creating Health and Safety Plans for projects
  • Generating and issuing Meter Point Administration Numbers to developers/customers
  • Dealing with general developer/customer queries and enquiries regarding projects from the quotation stage to construction and completion of the projects
  • Assisting colleagues with the company's business management tool as a super user.
Qualifications & Experience :
  • At least three years' experience as an Electrical, Building Services Design Engineer
  • Degree qualified in Electrical, or Building Services Engineering or similar
  • Able to use Revit MEP, AutoCAD or Amtech
  • The ability to use a 2D CAD package
  • Experience in the process and procedures associated with electrical panel design for machinery
  • A practical understanding of Machinery Standards (CE, UKCA, Risk Assessments, PUWER, Machinery Safety)
  • High rise housing and Stage 5 Design is essential (RIBA Stage 5 is a particular focus)
  • Contractor and/or consultancy experience is preferable – if only consultancy experience, must have a good portfolio of work for main Contractors or MEP Contractors
  • Experience in high rise residential is essential
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Work effectively in a team
  • Highly organised, high attention to detail and strong ability to meet to deadlines
  • Reliable, trustworthy and friendly
  • “Can-do” approach to work and advanced problem-solving skills
  • Proficient IT skills such as Word, Excel and MS Office
